The Shepherd's Tale

Joss Whedon

Book cover

This was significantly better than the other two “Serenity” graphic novels. The other two basically seemed like attempts at putting a “Firefly” episode into graphic novel form, which seemed only marginally successful–the actors are a lot of what drives the show. But this book delves into the backstory of one particular character, and does it in a way that takes advantage of the different possibilities available in the graphic novel medium. It’s nothing like a “Firefly” episode, and is much better for it.
